Mount Ragang

Description of Mount Ragang

Mount Ragang, also named Mount Piapayungan & Blue Mountain by the local people, is a stratovolcano on Mindanao island in the Phils.. It is the 7th highest mountain in the Philippines. Mount Ragang (Bundok Ragang) has a peak of 2,815 ms (9,236 ft) & a base diameter of 32 km (20 mi). It is the most active volcano on Mindanao, & is part of a string of volcanoes in what volcanologists name the Central Mindanao Arc.

There is still some confusion on the count of times Ragang erupted. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology lists 8 eruptions w/ the last one occurring in July 1916. But the Smithsonian Institution’s Global Volcanology Programs, citing the Catalog of Active Volcanoes of the World (Neumann van Padang, 1953), indicates that some eruptions assigned to nearby Makaturing were actually those of Ragang.
