Maria Cristina Falls is a waterfall of the Agus River on the island of Mindanao. It is sometimes named the “twin falls” as the flow is separated by a rock at the brink of the waterfall. It is a landmark of Iligan City, nicknamed the City of Majestic Waterfalls, because of the presence of more than 20 waterfalls in the city. It’s is known for its natural beauty & grandeur, the 98 meters/320 feet high waterfall is also the primary reservoir of electric power for the city’s industries, being harnessed by the Agus VI Hydroelectric Plant.
Maria Cristina Falls is only 8 km fr the city, and can be reached by taking a jeepney ride fr the pier to the Agus Bridge. from there, visitors can walk the rest of the way in about half an hour. They can view the falls fr the 3rd floor of the building in the viewing deck of the tourist area. Public access to the falls is only granted on Sundays. The river is partially blocked by hydroelectric station during the week & the falls gets a single plunge, but on Sunday morn the plant lasts for 1 hour, leaving the river to run free and return to its natural split-double waterfall.
